The Greenville Resident Office of the Secret Service has seen a dramatic uptick in Elder Abuse Schemes related to various Phishing Exploits over the past few months. These originate from the victims receiving emails, texts, or malicious software on their home computers. The victims are then told to call a particular telephone number and eventually send money to the suspects.
If you or your agency receives a report of a victim in your jurisdiction falling victim to this or a similar scheme recently, and the victim has sent funds through check, wire, or cryptocurrency, please reach out to Special Agent Joseph Lea, via email at [email protected]. We have had great success in being able to conduct seizure warrants on the suspect accounts and retrieve most, if not all, of the funds in recent cases.
