Meet Chris! Chris is the Director of Information Technology at Spero. With his vast knowledge of all things technology, Chris helps to keep Spero safe while keeping us up to date with new and improved technology. Keep reading to hear a bit more about Chris and how he makes sure that we are always prepared with the technology we need to serve our members!
TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
Chris has worked in IT for more than 30 years! He got his start in Maine as a Computer Programmer for a power company. In this role, he continued to grow as he had the opportunity to set up an email server, a network server, phones, websites, and more. After this, he moved more into the computer security sector in which he worked with others to make sure the power grid was secure. He spent 22 years with the company until he made the move to South Carolina and found Spero! In 2018, Chris joined Team Spero as the Director of Data Security before transitioning to Director of IT.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF ADVICE?
Chris says one of the biggest things he’s grown to learn over the years within his various roles is that the focus isn’t really on technology, it’s more on the people! He said, “Learning to be there for people and supporting them through whatever they’re going through is one of the biggest pieces of advice I can share.”
Whether you’re a leader supporting someone on your team and helping them succeed in their role or you’re working with someone on a technology problem they’re experiencing, being there for them and being a support makes a world of difference!
Chris went on to say, “Build your network! The technology will always change and grow but if you want to excel in your career, you have to focus on the people.”
It’s more about the people than it is about the technology!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR CURRENT POSITION? WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND COME TO WORK?
Chris says one of his favorite things about his current position is his ability to provide service and work for the benefit of our members— improving their financial lives! Along with this, Chris is motivated by finding new ways to conquer any challenges that may arise. While there have been mishaps along the way, the challenges and growth that come with the journey have driven him in his career. Similarly, Chris says that he enjoys the challenges that come with being a leader! He loves the leadership aspect of his role and his ability to mentor those around him.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WOULD TELL YOUR 25-YEAR-OLD SELF IF YOU KNEW THEN WHAT YOU KNOW NOW?
“Listen more than you speak.”
“Put money in your savings account and 401k!”, Chris says with a smile!
