Greenville, SC - Spero Financial, a South Carolina-based credit union since 1935, has been named the #9 Best Credit Union to Work for in the Nation by American Banker. Spero Financial also received this award in 2022 and was recently named a Best Place to Work in South Carolina for the third year in a row.
When asked what makes Spero Financial special, Brian McKay, President and CEO of Spero Financial, stated simply, “Our people.”
And McKay is not alone in his remarks. If you ask the same question to other employees, and even Spero members, the majority would also say “the people.”
“Great culture is built by having a great team. I firmly believe that we have the best people at Spero. Our working environment is one built on appreciation, authenticity, transparency, and collaboration. We’re intentional about not only working hard but having a ton of fun, too. Team Spero makes all this possible, and for that, I am truly grateful to be part of the team,” shared McKay.
This people-first priority not only applies to Team Spero, but also to the members of Spero Financial. The organization considers itself more than just a credit union - it is a team of financial coaches, resolution-seekers, and thought-leaders committed to enhancing the financial lives of the members they serve. This singular-driving focus is the bond that carries across all areas of the organization. Each employee knows the value his or her role plays in making this life-changing mission a reality.
As McKay remarked, fun is no mysterious word across the organization. From shuffleboard competitions to a Family Day at the Greenville Drive to spontaneous team lunches, Team Spero creates any excuse to have a great time!
But at the heart of their culture - the special ingredient in it all - is Team Spero’s sense of appreciation for each other. It is through this culture, a culture cultivated by gratitude, that employees thrive in their work and truly enjoy doing what they do.
